Flu season is approaching, and early vaccination remains the best way to reduce illness during the season.
Who can get it free
The Queensland Government is funding free influenza vaccination for all Queensland residents aged 6 months and older.
Needle-free FluMist nasal spray is free for all children aged 2 to 5 years, and for children and young people aged 6 to 17 years who struggle with needles.
National Immunisation Program (NIP)
The vaccine is also funded nationally for people at higher risk of severe illness, including:
- Pregnant women
- Adults aged 65 years and over
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- People with specific medical conditions
At our flu clinic
- Appointments usually take about 5 minutes
- The vaccine and administration are bulk billed under the program
- Flu vaccination can often be given with other vaccines if suitable
- Children under 9 having their first flu vaccine may need two doses
Why yearly vaccination matters
- The flu virus changes each year, so annual vaccination remains important
- Protection is strongest in the first 3 to 4 months after vaccination
- Vaccination helps reduce serious illness and protect more vulnerable people around you
